Arctic Monkeys Share Short Documentary Warp Speed Chic, Announce Tranquility Base Seven-Inch

Arctic Monkeys have stayed busy since the release of their latest album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, out now on Domino Records. They launched their world-conquering 2018 tour in January, their first in four years, and in between international stages and festival headliners, they managed to sneak in an album documentary, as well as a brand spankin’ new b-side.

The documentary is called Warp Speed Chic, and it features footage captured at various stages throughout the recording and touring process for Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The 12-minute short film was directed by Ben Chappell, and it was previously featured as part of the band’s AM:ZM exhibitions, a series of collaborations with photographer Zackery Michael that were displayed in London and Sheffield.

Regarding the creation of the film, Chappell said in a statement that he “spent a few weeks with the band in France documenting the recording process with my 16mm camera in September 2017. At that point I was still only hearing bits and pieces of the tunes as they were being recorded. Nearly a year later I was on stage with them in Lyon France shooting some of those same tunes.” Warp Speed Chic documents the album process from beginning to end, and is a must-see for fans eager to see how the band operates in their less public moments.

But a simple documentary was not enough for the band—they have also announced the forthcoming release of a seven-inch with Tranquility Base’s title track as well as a brand new b-side, “Anyways.” The seven-inch will be out on Nov. 30 and is available for preorder here.

The band will be continuing their North American tour through the end of October. Find a full list of dates further down.
