Aretha Franklin Takes Us to Church in Trailer for New Documentary Amazing Grace

On August 16, 2018, the world lost a talent the likes of which had never been seen before. In her 76 years, Aretha Franklin became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and earned a whopping 18 Grammy Awards in recognition of her inimitable voice.
Now, Franklin’s legacy is being honored in the forthcoming documentary film Amazing Grace, featuring footage from the recording of the titular gospel album. Recorded in 1972, this never-before-seen tape captures the Queen of Soul’s rousing performance at a church in south Los Angeles. While not in her hometown of Detroit, the taping was a homecoming of sorts, considering that Franklin grew up singing in a church choir and recorded her first live gospel album in 1956 at the tender age of 14. Amazing Grace (1972) itself is the most successful gospel record of all time, garnering a double platinum certification.
