Ariana Grande sues unidentified hackers

Ariana Grande is taking legal action against two alleged hackers for “unlawful and egregious theft, dissemination, and exploitation of unreleased content.” The lawsuit claims that these hackers are responsible for leaking unreleased music, photos, and video footage from private studio sessions and music video shoots and making “significant sums of money” off the hacked content. Following her starring role in Wicked, Grande is currently touring her 2024 album eternal sunshine and rolling out a forthcoming album titled petal.

This lawsuit aims to identify and prosecute the hackers, and asserts that the leaks date back to 2011. Grande’s legal team alleges that “hundreds” of songs have been leaked since then, 45 of them in the year 2023 alone. The alleged targets of these hacks have not been Grande herself, but producers and photographers with whom the “thank u next” singer has worked closely. 

A representative from Grande’s team stated that the lawsuit “is intended to serve as a deterrent against future acts of this nature—not only targeting Ariana, but also the many artists who have faced similar invasions of their privacy and theft of their creative work.” Grande herself had another message for the hackers, which she shared during a 2024 appearance on the Zach Sang show. She called them “crooks” and “pirates.” 

“Thank you so much,” she told them. “I’ll see you in jail. Literally.”
