Barrie Release the Bleary-Eyed “Tal Uno,” Their Second Single Ever

Dream-pop band Barrie may only have two songs out, but the Brooklyn-based group has already established a particular sound for themselves. “Canyons,” released earlier this year, and “Tal Uno,” out now, have a strong ‘80s influence, and lead songwriter Barrie Lindsay’s airy vocals emphasize their delicate qualities.

Earlier this year, Paste named Barrie one of the 15 young NYC bands you need to know in 2018. With new music constantly coming out of New York City, artists are also regularly arising, reshaping and disappearing, but Barrie might be ones to stick.

Their newest track “Tal Uno” has a slow, hazy atmosphere that evokes images of bright lights dimmed by a running fog machine; it is a bleary-eyed look backwards. The lyrics are difficult to distinguish, swirling into the instruments, but the lyrics that stand out most are “I got your message, I left my necklace, I got your picture on my phone.” Framed within the track, these lines conjure thoughts of high school youthfulness while the phrase, “Don’t you think that you can do better?” sticks out like a dagger in the mist of the otherwise gently careening track.

Listen to both “Tal Uno” and “Canyons” below, and see Barrie’s tour slate further down.
