Baltimore, Md., dream-pop act Beach House released their most recent single late on Tuesday night, “Dive.” Following the release of the album’s first single “Lemon Glow” on Valentine’s Day of this year, Beach House now reveal that their forthcoming album, 7, will be released May 11 via Sub Pop Records everywhere except Europe and Australia/New Zealand, where it will be released by Bella Union and Mistletone.
The forthcoming album, mixed by Alan Moulder, was preceded by Beach House members Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand’s most recent release, B-sides and Rarities, in 2017, which was said to have served as a house cleaning for the artists to pave the way for their new creative process. All the songs on 7 began at the band’s home studio in Baltimore, with the album being finalized at Carriage House in Stamford, Conn. and Palmetto Studio in Los Angeles, Calif.
Unlike the band’s previous albums, 7 has no producer in the traditional sense. Spacemen 3’s Sonic Boom (aka Peter Kember) was said to be a driving force behind the album, carefully making sure it was protected against studio over-production and over-development. What we get is a more organic sound from the pop duo, shown in their single “Dive,” which begins with a bright organ leading into Legrand’s soft vocals, slowly building into a dynamic climax that picks up with grungy electric guitars.
Preorders for the album are available through Sub Pop, Bella Union (Europe), and Mistletone (Australia / New Zealand). Beach House will also embark on a tour in support of their album, starting April 30 at The Signal in Chattanooga, Tenn. Tickets to their shows go up for pre-sale on March 8 at 10 a.m. local time before going on sale to the general public March 9 at 10 a.m. local time.
