Beirut Release Video for “Landslide,” Latest Single off New Album Gallipoli

In anticipation of their fifth album’s release, Beirut have unveiled their latest single, “Landslide,” and an accompanying video described in a press release as “Monty Python meets Game of Thrones”—so basically, Monty Python with a better budget.

“Landslide” sees the band returning, ever so blithely, to their inoffensive indie sound. Frontman Zach Cohen sings longingly about a “landslide back home,” backed by his old Farfisa organ, which he used when writing the first Beirut two albums (Gulag Orkestar and The Flying Club Cup). The song reaches soaring heights at times, but still remains firmly planted in the band’s comfort zone.

The video itself is equal parts silly and visually stunning. Filmed in Kazakhstan, Game of Thrones actor Ian Beattie roams through a vast, arid landscape. Beattie, in full medieval garb, wends his way through towering canyons as he attempts to get back up on his horse, unlocks a woman’s chastity belt and battles an enemy knight.

See the video (dir. Eoin Glaister) and Beirut’s tour dates below, and discover everything else we know about Gallipoli, out on Feb. 1 via 4AD, right here.
