Exclusive: Listen to Bel Heir’s High-Energy “California High”

Trio Bel Heir has written a summer rock smash that’ll make you feel like you’re driving down a winding California road on a sunny day. You can fuel your daydreams with an exclusive stream of the infectious “California High” now, only at Paste.

The track is the first single off of Bel Heir’s forthcoming EP, Washed Up, due out July 21. “’California High’ is about a false sense of reality. It’s written from the perspective of living a temporary dream life while missing home all at the same time,” says the band. “It was thought up during the departure of our label, RCA, after spending two years writing and recording a record in Los Angeles that may never be released.”

Bel Heir’s gritty but refined sound borrows instrumental techniques from earlier punk bands while implementing current pop songwriting styles, making their eventual entrance into the pop landscape almost inevitable. Listen to “California High” below and a Bel Heir live session from the Paste vault beneath that.
