Beyoncé Joined by Mothers of the Movement on VMA Red Carpet

Known for her outspoken support for the Black Lives Matter movement, Beyoncé has once again used her influence to draw attention to the victims of racially charged police brutality.

The singer was joined on the red carpet at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards by the Mothers of the Movement, including Sybrina Fulton, mother of Trayvon Martin; Gwen Carr, mother of Eric Garner; Lesley McSpadden-Head, mother of Michael “Mike” Brown, Jr.; and Wanda Johnson, mother of Oscar Grant III.

Beyoncé previously worked with all four mothers when they appeared in the Lemonade visual holding portraits of their fallen sons. Additionally, she ended her VMA medley performance with “Formation,” the same track she used as a call for social reform during last year’s Super Bowl halftime show.

The singer made no mention of the mothers during the awards show, but once again made substantial social commentary with a single, understated gesture.
