Over the last few weeks, in the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires, there have been numerous benefit concerts and albums announced/released. The music community continues to come together in support of the thousands affected and/or displaced by the fires, and Big Thief have entered the conversation today. The band has shared Passional Relations, an EP of their “favorite unreleased songs,” including another recording of Adrianne Lenker‘s “zombie girl.” These five tracks do not appear to be from the Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You sessions, but recordings from across the band’s history, stretching as far back as 2018 (“Shadow Too”). The EP arrives on the heels of i won’t let go of your hand, Lenker’s Bandcamp-exclusive 2024 release. 100% of the proceeds of that album went to the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund.
The proceeds from Passional Relations will be donated to the PLUS1LA Fires Fund, an organization that will, in the interim, “help local nonprofits offering shelter and care to those who have lost their homes, including PPE to prevent smoke inhalation, food, clothing, diapers, formula, hygiene items, and mental health support to help those coping with trauma.” Moving forward, the fund will be used to help “individuals, families, communities, and the environment rebuild and recover from these devastating losses.”
Currently, the EP is only available on Big Thief’s website. You can purchase it here.
