Bill Callahan Releases Six New Songs off Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest

Bill Callahan has just released six new songs. We counted them—six full songs.

Earlier this month, Callahan announced the July 14 release of Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest, the follow-up to his last proper studio album, 2013’s Dream River. Callahan has now released the full first side of the forthcoming album, which adds up to six of the 20 new songs. That’s 17 minutes, or 30% of the album’s runtime.

Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest will be released on Drag City Records, with the six advance tracks including “Shepherd’s Welcome,” “Black Dog on the Beach,” “Angela,” “The Ballad of the Hulk,” “Writing” and “Morning is My Godmother.”

Last year, the lo-fi rock artist released Live at Third Man Records following a book of lyrics and drawing called I Drive a Valence.

Formerly known for recording as Smog, Callahan is set to tour the U.S. this summer.
