Daily Dose: Bitch Falcon, “Syncope”

Dublin trio Bitch Falcon has the most badass name in rock ‘n’ roll right now. I saw them close out Hard Working Class Heroes, an annual weekend-long conference and festivals showcasing Irish music, at The Workman’s Club on a Saturday night at 11p.m. Even those who knew Bitch Falcon—as the group has existed in numerous forms since 2013—were not prepared for the ferocious ruckus drummer Nigel Kenny, bassist Barry O’Sullivan and singer/guitarist/HBIC Lizzie Fitzpatrick would produce.

Rhythmically, Bitch Falcon seems to channel the fuzz-slathered riffs of grunge titans like Mudhoney or early Soundgarden. But when Fitzpatrick shreds on her glittery Fender guitar or unleashes her true bird-of-prey vocals, the band ascends to another level of power. Current single “Syncope” epitomizes this tenuous balance of aggressiveness and melody. It may not always be easy to discern Fitzpatrick’s lyrics amid her screams and grunts, but her sheer presence commands you to listen.

The video for “Syncope,” produced, directed and edited by Kate Dolan, follows the exploits of an “under-aged, over-sexed” Irish girl gang—as the opening narrator describes, “Girls who won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.’” It’s the perfect visual accompaniment for such a strong, exciting, up-and-coming female-fronted group.

Brace yourselves and check out “Bitch Falcon’s “Syncope” below and stay tuned for more new music coming soon.
