There has been a lot of anticipation for Björk’s new album Utopia (out next week via One Little Indian Records), heightened by the Gucci dress that took almost 900 hours total to create, and the video for “The Gate” she shared with us a month ago, which was a continuation of 2015’s Vulnicura.
Now the high priestess of art pop has shared a new track all about anticipation: It’s called “Blissing Me,” and it’s accompanied by a single-shot video of Bjork dancing. Directed by Emma Dalzell and Tom Walker, the video also captures what substance hides in the lines’ virtual connection—a shared and powerful feeling, experienced alone. The lyrics seem to halt with Björk’s breathless coos, the melody lengthening and building in intensity as “two music nerds” fall in love by exchange of MP3s, “falling in love to a song” (Björk actually holds out her hands several times to imitate texting). We are at once transported back to high school and also to an apex of pure emotion.
