Black Thought Shares New EP, Streams of Thought, Vol. 2

Black Thought, frontman of legendary R&B outfit The Roots, has released a brand new EP, Streams of Thought, Vol. 2 (subtitled Black Thought x Salaam Remi Presents Traxploitation), out now through Human Re Sources.

The release features production from Salaam Remi, and performances from Black Thought, Tish Hyman and Reek Ruffin. The EP is the second of a planned three-volume series, with the first Streams of Thought released this past summer.

Black Thought has stated his commitment to working with black visual artists throughout the series. For Vol. 2, he teams up with Leslie Hewitt, who provided the cover art. Hewitt said in a statement that she felt moved to capture the aesthetics that are important to Black Thought in particular and hip-hop as a whole in her imagery, saying the cover was “inspired by the lyrical flow of Thought’s rhyme schema, movement, power[ful] arts speak to how collage and juxtaposition visual poetry.” She chose the palette based on “colors that feel lived in,” with ‘70s carpet, ‘60s Polaroid and ‘80s graffiti tagged book binding.”
