Exclusive: Blitzen Trapper to Release Live Album Recorded at Third Man
Photo by Jamie GoodsellOregonian folk-rock band Blitzen Trapper have so far released an impressive eight studio albums since the release of their self-titled debut in 2003. Between then and now, the Pacific Northwesterners have dabbled in many genres, but have consistently remained true to form. Now, Paste can exclusively share that the band will be adding a live album to their repertoire.
On March 16, 2016, the band performed at Third Man Records’ headquarters in Nashville on the Blue Room Stage. The session was recorded and cut direct-to-acetate on Third Man’s 1955 Scully lathe. You can listen to the lush, pining, folky first release from that session, “Lonesome Angel,” below. “Third Man has it dialed in, hard rock Never Never Land,” Eric Earley of Blitzen Trapper said in a statement. “Super fun crew over there.”
The live album is available for pre-order today and officially in stores on Sept. 2. The band also kicks off tour in mid-September—the tour will include all band members, but most dates will feature a stripped-down acoustic experience titled “Songbook: A Night of Stories & Songs” where Blitzen Trapper will tell stories and share the inspirations behind some of their most beloved songs, including those from their favorite songwriters and influences. Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 19.
