Boy George releases AI-assisted pro-Israel song “We Will Dance Again”

When preparing to co-represent the tiny Italian microstate of San Marino in the 2026 Eurovision contest in May, the British artist Boy George was asked about some countries’ boycott of the competition due to Israel’s inclusion. “I feel very connected to the Jewish people,” he responded. “I’m not necessarily connected to Israel. I don’t really have an opinion on that.” Two days ago, the Culture Club singer changed his tune. George released an AI-assisted song called “We Will Dance Again” that minimizes Palestinian suffering and champions Israel’s military actions in Gaza in the wake of Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on the Nova music festival. The song, which an AI-generated Google Overview attempts to shill as “a rootsy reggae single,” shares its title with an acclaimed documentary covering the Nova attack. George shared it only on social media, with the caption, “#shalom.”

The song is, confusingly, reggae-inspired, presumably because the AI software used to make it got its wires crossed. “You say genocide, I say war,” the song begins. “When you’re attacked, that’s what the army’s for.” George, who is not Jewish, continues, “We know you want to kill every last one of us.” The song goes on to describe, with shiver-inducing breeziness, “young girls raped against trees, murdered brutally.” He derides artists who have supported Gaza, saying they “condemn the Jews with selective memory / Musicians holding flags mouthing like sheep.” The song continues: “If you’re ever confused, I stand with the Jews / I don’t feel brave, I just need to behave like a human.” The song makes no effort to differentiate between the state of Israel and “the Jews” with whom George supposedly stands, though an October poll found that only 37% of American Jews identify as Zionists.  He concludes the song by repeating its opening refrain in Hebrew, never once mentioning the 73,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza since October 2023.
