Brooklyn band Brahms recently died on us with this great session still on the vine. It’s not altogether applicable, but we’re going to make the April 23, 1997 excerpt from Joe Wenderoth’s genius book, “Letters To Wendy’s” our introduction to this short-lived band that featured Michael Cale Parks, Eric Lodwick, and Drew Robinson, as they wrote and recorded songs that felt like odes to nights that spoke differently to different people. We find this to be true a lot. We try to fix it, but it rarely works.

Wenderoth wrote, “The trouble is that the spilling out learns to gather itself even as it continues to spill! There’s no cure for the spilling; greeting cards may deny this, but such denial is never, as it claims, a definitive gathering. Rather, it’s an indication of how tired the gatherer has become – and how aware of gathering’s futility. On my greeting cards, therefore, I always write, ‘Toping for a cure ruins what little we have.’”

It might not mean anything.
