Brandon is the candid moniker behind 27-year-old Brandon Joseph. The Riverside-born, Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter has been releasing music since 2018, but now he’s gearing up for his first full-length LP Before You Go, slated for release May 9 via Secretly Canadian. Following singles “Right Back” and “September,” Brandon released “Seeing Stars” this morning, a tender candlelight of bedroom pop style R&B and indisputable evidence that a well-sung love song will hit home every time.

Brandon says of the song, “‘Seeing Stars’ is another little story. So, I ride the train all the time. And one thing about me is, I’m always running late. Not on purpose, but sometimes I just lose track of time or I cut it too close. Anyways, this song is about being lovestruck. I was chasing a moment, and chasing this person. It was the first time I’d seen her in a long time, and when I did I was very, very emotional. When thinking about how this song makes me feel, it’s pure nostalgia and very sentimental to me, almost like a little time capsule.”

Across the 11 tracks of Before You Go, Brandon has dialed in his creative process—the album entirely written, recorded, and produced from home. He stacks layers and layers of lush self-harmonies then hides them amidst the guitar riffs, streaming and spilling over each hushed moment of percussion. His lyrics are adrift in thoughts of friendship, love, change, and personal reflection, yet warmly tinged with an eager embrace of acceptance. Before You Go is the calm, deep breath that grounds you; the tranquil, unbothered smile of true happiness, and the filled well of emotion begging to be flumed.

“Taking my time with this record—allowing it to grow and not rushing the process—has made me the happiest I’ve ever been with my music,” Brandon says of the album. “A lot of my favorite artists are stuck like Gorilla Glue on the planet; they’ll never be erasable. I want to create timeless music like that too.”
