Rejoice! Bruce Springsteen is emptying his vault this summer. The Boss will release Tracks II: The Lost Albums on June 27 via Sony Music, and the box set will feature unheard material recorded between 1983 and 2018, including seven LPs: LA Garage Sessions ’83, Streets of Philadelphia Sessions, Faithless, Somewhere North of Nashville, Inyo, Twilight Hours, and Perfect World. “The Lost Albums were full records, some of them even to the point of being mixed and not released,” Springsteen explained in a press release. “I’ve played this music to myself and often close friends for years now. I’m glad you’ll get a chance to finally hear them. I hope you enjoy them.”
There will be a special 20-track Lost and Found: Selections from the Lost Albums sampler available on 2LP and 1CD, and you can hear “Rain in the River,” a cut from the E Street Band-assisted Perfect World, right now. The band sounds potent and in-sync on the track, a special balance so rarely found on such a stadium-sized recording, and a revelation, considering their absence on most of Springsteen’s releases from the ‘90s. “I often read about myself in the ’90s as having some lost period or something,” the Boss said. “And really, I was working the whole time.” “Rain in the River,” a song as new at it is old, makes good on that confirmation.
