Buck Meek to Make 4AD Debut, Announces Haunted Mountain

On the heels of his gorgeous 2021 LP Two Saviors, Buck Meek—best known as the guitarist of beloved indie folk band Big Thief—is making his label debut with 4AD later this summer. On August 25, Meek will release Haunted Mountain, an 11-song endeavor teased by the title track lead single.

“Haunted Mountain” is a big, heavy-hearted country-folk track—with hypnotic guitar licks, beautiful pedal steel and wispy percussion—that finds Meek singing sweetly about Mount Shasta. The lyrics double as a metaphorical take on the beginning of a new relationship, paired with one of Meek’s best arrangements yet. “I’m never coming down again,” he sings in one of the prettiest vocal layerings you’ll hear.

Haunted Mountain features the same band that Meek has employed since his self-titled album in 2018: Longtime players Adam Brisbin, Austin Vaughn and Mat Davidson. For this project, Ken Woodward and Meek’s brother Dylan joined in on the recording sessions.
