Buck Meek, the prolific singer/songwriter best known for his work as guitarist in Big Thief, has unveiled the latest single from his forthcoming album Haunted Mountain, out August 25 via 4AD. “Cyclades” is a thumping, sparkly country-rock anthem relating the boyish love Meek feels for his father. Mountainous guitars and anchoring drums link Meek’s ever-arpeggiating twang to the history—or, perhaps, mythology—of his childhood in heroic fashion.
“There’s a thin line between history and mythology. Our lives are made of an endless myriad of unfinished stories, of every encounter of billions of people at the center of thousands of years in each direction,” Meek explains of the “Cyclades” thematics. “The telling is secondary.”
