Watch C Duncan Perform His Dreamy Chamber Pop at Paste Studio

The son of two classical musicians, Glasgow’s Christopher Duncan was surrounded by music throughout his childhood, initially taking up piano and viola. He’d eventually learn guitar, bass and drums, but he never quite got over his fascination with the composition and performance of classical music. While studying music composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, he set about combining his interests in classical and modern music. The pieces on his new sophomore album, The Midnight Sun—all of which were recorded at his home studio—are built from lush choral harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, textured like contemporary dream-pop. The result is a charming, lo-fi folk record with the harmonic width of choral composition.
