Calexico, Iron & Wine and Andrew Bird Announce The Great Summer Stroll Tour
Photos by Piper Ferguson, Michael SchmellingAs if conducting an experiment to explore the limits of how many Paste-favorite acts they could squeeze onto one bill, indie-folk collaborators Calexico and Iron & Wine have teamed up with Andrew Bird for a co-headlining North American tour. Their summer run begins in Asheville, N.C., on June 10, and also features the likes of Neko Case, Mandolin Orange and Joseph—i.e., the aforementioned experiment was a resounding success.
Calexico and Iron & Wine combined their considerable forces in 2019 to release Years to Burn, Joey Burns, John Convertino and Sam Beam’s first collaboration in nearly 15 years. The album received multiple Grammy nominations, including Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Performance for “Father Mountain.” Bird’s latest album, meanwhile, last year’s My Finest Work Yet, earned a Grammy nod of its own for Best Folk Album.
After kicking off in Beam’s home state of North Carolina, The Great Summer Stroll Tour goes coast-to-coast, with stops at Morrison, Colorado’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre (with Case), the Ravinia Festival in Bird’s home state of Illinois, and a final show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, where they’ll be joined by Mandolin Orange. Joseph will provide support on the tour’s first nine shows, which are concentrated on the East Coast and in the Midwest.
Fan pre-sale for select dates on The Great Summer Stroll Tour begins tomorrow, Feb. 12, at 10 a.m. local time, before the general on-sale begins this Friday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. local. $1 from each ticket sold goes to The Nature Conservancy’s Plant a Billion Trees campaign.
