The National Live-Debut Two New Songs in Canada
Photo by Mark Metcalfe/GettyOver the weekend, The National headlined the “Welcome To Hamilton” benefit concert in Hamilton, Ontario, with proceeds going to arts programming for Syrian refugee youth.
During their set, the band debuted two new songs titled “The Day I Die” and “Sometimes I Don’t Think.” You can watch fan video of the “The Day I Die” performance in full below.
The following day, the band headlined the first night of Toronto’s Field Trip Festival and performed the songs again. Watch around 30 seconds of “Sometimes I Don’t Think” during that show below, as well.
The National’s last studio album was 2013’s excellent Trouble Will Find Me. The band’s latest project saw them jam with several of their friends on a four-hour Grateful Dead tribute album titled Day of the Dead. The National’s next tour stop will be another benefit show on June 11 at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art.
Watch the new songs’ live debuts below, and beneath them, revisit National oldie-but-goodie “Lucky You” from the band’s 2007 Daytrotter session.
