Cardi B loves Instagram Live almost as much as she loves the New York Knicks, and she used the former to discuss the latter Monday night after the team’s game three loss in this year’s NBA Finals. The Knicks played the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden and, in an effort to ruin the event for all involved and deprive Manhattan of its most valid touristic crowding in decades, fairweather fan and former NYC native President Donald Trump announced he’d be shutting down much of the arena and its surroundings in order to attend. The unprecedented decision meant Trump got to watch Cardi B take the court during the game’s halftime show (so did Shaq, who decided to say, “Look more like Cardi D’s to me!” on live television for some reason when she performed.)
After the game, Cardi, who brought her songs “Bodega Baddie” and “Bodak Yellow” to MSG, told fans on Instagram Live that something felt off about the night. Eating a SpongeBob ice cream bar, Cardi read a comment from a fan suggesting Trump had caused the Knicks’ bad luck. “You can’t stop the president from fucking going to a game, but it did feel a little dark in there,” she admitted. “You know how it felt like in there? It felt like the principal was there and everybody had to be on their best behavior.” Cardi, not exactly a vocal Trump fan, told reporters earlier in the evening that, if the Knicks won, “the rats will disappear, trees will start growing, potholes will be filled, rains of glitters are coming down, the Statue of Liberty is going to finally walk. It’s going to mean everything.” But Trump, it seems, kept Lady Liberty fastened to her island and the potholes deep. Fret not, though: Today, when the Knicks face the Spurs again in game four, Cardi announced she’d be hosting a prayer circle on Instagram Live.
