You’ve heard it everywhere: Cardi B’s come-up is one of the single best things to happen in 2017. Now that she’s certifiably triple platinum, thanks to “Bodak Yellow” earlier this year, she has a new set of challenges to reckon with: avoiding one-hit wonderdom and making a debut album that will boost her status as a hit-making machine. She’s already been busy securing guest spots on G-Eazy’s “No Limit” ft. A$AP Rocky, Migos’ “Motorsport” ft. Nicki Minaj and Ozuna’s “La Modelo,” and she appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon earlier this week, which was clearly too much for Fallon to handle.
Now, “Bartier Cardi,” the title single from her forthcoming debut that keeps her boastful, sans lawsuit over brand-name jewelry, features 21 Savage, who amplifies Cardi B’s professed love of cars and sex. She admitted in an October interview with Rolling Stone, however, that she “rarely drinks,” adding, “If I drink … it’s like, my man is gonna be around, and I’m gonna have sex.”
Speaking of her man, it’s now husband-to-be Offset of Migos. She toted her oversized engagement ring on Fallon, and all over the internet. For fans, the stars aligned and really, we’re just thankful this wasn’t the year of Taylor Swift.
Quick fame comes at a price. “I got six, seven solid songs that I like, but I wonder if a month from now, I’m going to change my mind,” Cardi B told RS. “My mind doesn’t flow as free ‘cause I have so much on my mind.”
