This morning, Remember Sports vocalist Carmen Perry announced her debut album, Eyes Like a Mirror. The LP is slated for release on June 6 via Mtn Laurel Recording Co., and the news comes packaged alongside a new single, “Readjust.”
Released a decade after its inception, “Readjust” is the mirror for how far Perry has come since moving to Philly. Her lyrics are wandering, questioning and repeatedly unsure, yet she sings them with a level of mature confidence that can only be found through the slow, sculpting hands of time. It’s an old tune, an easy strum-along; a reminiscent melody to be whistled while looking through old photo albums. Decorated with echoing guitar licks and sweeping breakdowns, “Readjust” feels fulfilled and carefree, not in youthful naïveté, but in its place as a coming-of-age reflection.
Perry said of the song, “I wrote ‘Readjust’ when I first moved to Philly almost ten years ago and had no idea what I wanted out of life, but knew I wanted to try everything. When I hear it now I think of being young and aimless, with the confidence that the pieces of your life will fall into place no matter how badly you fuck up.”
Produced by Perry as well as Michael Cormier-O’Leary (Friendship, Hour) and audio engineer Lucas Knapp (Friendship, Hour, Florry), Eyes Like a Mirror is a dedication to the endless possibilities of life, celebrating past adventures while still eager for all those yet to come. Perry calls on a wide range of friends and collaborators to commemorate the occasion as well, featuring her Remember Sports bandmates Catherine Dwyer and Jack Washburn, 2nd Grade’s Peter Gill, Friendship’s Jon Samuels, and Boosegumps’ Heeyoon Won. Perry elaborated on the record saying, “Eyes Like a Mirror is about growing up and learning who you are through the eyes of the people you love the most.”
