American singer-songwriter Caroline Rose has found love and, apparently, they’re freaky, just like her.
Rose shared her latest single “Freak Like Me” Tuesday, the second single to be released from her forthcoming album Superstar, set for release on March 6 via New West Records.
The track is sultry and whimsical, with the echoing sound of the piano and Rose’s low, raspy voice entering the track with, “My love is a bad idea.”
In a statement, Rose describes the song as “a S&M-themed love song about falling in love with your dominatrix. The song’s melody is very floral and beautiful. I imagine it as some sort of delicate dress dancing around 17th-century Versailles. I wanted to juxtapose this daintiness with grotesque lyrics. I’ve always wanted to write a pretty song with the word ‘vomit’ in it. Paradoxes are fun.”
Not only does this enchanting and delicate song have the word vomit in the lyrics, but also, over the soft and sweet sounds of the piano, Rose sings, “All I’ve ever needed are some handcuffs and a passenger seat.”
Rose samples Aaron Embry’s ‘“Raven Song” for the track, and she says it “took the song to another level and completed the paradox.”
