Chance the Rapper Partners with Lyft to Support Chicago Public Schools

Chance the Rapper is back on his saving-the-world grind—or, more accurately, his saving-Chicago’s-education-system grind. The Chicago rapper announced via Twitter Wednesday that he and his youth empowerment group SocialWorks would be partnering with Lyft to donate to the Chicago Public School System through Lyft’s Round-Up program. The program gives riders the choice to donate through the ride-sharing app, and for the month of September, Lyft will match every donation made.

Chance has been an active proponent of Chicago philanthropy since his initial rise to fame. His earliest performances took place at the YOUMedia Lyricist Loft at the Harold Washington Library, a social outreach center that encouraged teens to pursue creative and professional endeavors. In starting SocialWorks, Chance “aims to empower youth through the arts, education, and civic engagement while fostering leadership, accessibility, and positivity within the youth throughout Chicago,” per the org’s website.

This latest philanthropy effort follows up on the $2.2 million Chance donated last September to 20 underfunded neighborhood schools through his New Chance Arts & Literature Fund.
