Charli XCX released a new song Thursday titled “5 in the Morning.” The track is the pop star’s first new solo music since last year’s Pop 2 mixtape. “5 in the Morning” is as sleek as its accompanying artwork.
The singer platformed her stardom via guest vocals on two smash hits: Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Icona Pop’s “I Don’t Care.” More recently, XCX collaborated with Cardi B for Rita Ora’s “Girls.” The track was met with criticism from queer artists who felt Ora exploited bisexuality. In an interview with Rolling Stone, XCX apologized for the track, stating, “I think that’s something we can all do: we can all learn from this conversation.”
XCX released Sucker, her last full album, in 2014. The pop star has indicated that she intends to release new material throughout the summer—“You’re gonna be so fucking sick of me,” XCX joked on Twitter—though there’s no word on whether fans will get a full album anytime soon.
