Charli XCX and Sky Ferreira Are Over It in a New Single, “Cross You Out”
Photo by Marcus CooperCharli XCX continues to pull off coup after alt-pop coup, wrangling Sky Ferreira for the latest cut off her forthcoming self-titled, Charli. The confessional “Cross You Out” finds Ms. Ferreira and Chuck saying bye-bye to a bad relationship over rubbery bass synths and keyboard stabs. “I’ve become something better,” the pair insist on the gorgeous bridge. “Now I look in the mirror, feels so good to forget ya.” Ferreira—last heard on her beautifully suffocating single, “Downhill Lullaby”—is a welcome addition, the grunge pop singer-songwriter sounding right at home alongside A.G. Cook and Lotus IV’s forward-thinking production.
“Cross You Out” is another successful collaboration on an album revealing itself to be full of them. French synthpopper Christine and the Queens appeared on the recent stormer, “Gone,” and “Blame It on Your Love” featured a breezy Lizzo verse.
Charli will kick off a transatlantic tour this fall. You can find tour dates here.
Charli (the album) is due for release Sept. 13. Listen to “Cross You Out” here, and check out the single artwork below:
