That Juiced-Up Charli XCX and Lizzo Track Is Out

When it comes to slightly left-of-center electronic pop, Charli XCX is a pretty safe bet these days. Her latest, a recently teased rework of her own Pop 2’s “Track 10” called “Blame It on Your Love,” featuring her fellow bop star (and Atlantic labelmate) Lizzo, proves to be no exception.

The propulsive reboot (co-written with a handful of artists, including Norwegian production team Stargate and PC Music’s A.G. Cook) switches up the crystal-clear stutters and grandiose structure of the original for something a little looser and more digestible. It’s built around what sounds exactly like a sample of Lumidee’s 2003 hit “Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh),” leaning heavily on hand claps and dancehall drums. But the most exciting addition has to be Lizzo, still riding high after the release of Cuz I Love You, who drops in for a few confident bars about juice (of course) and Swisher Sweets. The end result is a bop just in time for summer, perfectly at home in clubs and summer BBQs hosted by your coolest friends.
