Charly Bliss Release Dark Video for New Single “Chatroom”

Brooklyn power-pop outfit Charly Bliss have shared a video for “Chatroom,” the second single from their forthcoming record Young Enough, out May 10 on Barsuk Records. The dark, surreal video was directed by Meagan Houang and follows frontwoman Eva Hendricks as she attempts to escape a cult led by a creepy dude in a wreath.

Sonically, “Chatroom” continues in the direction set forth by the first Young Enough single “Capacity”: brighter, poppier, more forceful and determined. Hendricks describes it as “a song about reaching ecstatic joy through consuming rage,” and says she wrote the single and most of the album as a way to process her experience of being sexually assaulted by someone she dated.

Of the “Chatroom” music video, Hendricks says, “I feel so lucky to have worked with Maegan Houang on this video. I felt an immediate sense of mutual trust, and she produced a treatment that directly addresses the themes of trauma, misogyny and mind control without resorting to a literal representation of the lyrics.” She later adds that it’s “tonally the darkest video we’ve ever made.”

Charly Bliss have also announced an extensive headlining tour that stretches well into the summer. Check out the “Chatroom” video, the band’s 2017 Paste Studio session and their full list of tour dates below.
