Childish Gambino, aka the multi-talented Donald Glover, gave psych-rock masters Tame Impala a shout-out on Sunday night when performing a set in their hometown of Perth, Australia. Glover’s performance was part of the 2019 Splendour in the Grass musical festival.
According to Perth-based publication Pile Rats and fans who attended, Glover said to the crowd, “Do y’all f*ck with Tame Impala? I f*ck with Tame Impala,” and continued, “Black people really f*ck with Tame Impala, y’all should be proud of him,” referring to Kevin Parker, the lead singer, principal songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist for the psychedelic-rock group.
During the set, Glover confirmed it would be one of his last shows as Childish Gambino, as he notably canceled his tour last November due to a foot injury and has been heavily involved in other projects, such as playing Simba in The Lion King.
Childish Gambino and Tame Impala both headlined Coachella a few months back, and are both performing at Splendour. The two acts will also play Lollapolooza next month and Austin City Limits in October. Fans are hoping a meeting between Glover and Parker might be in the cards.

In @donaldglover’s first AU show for his “last tour ever” — his words, not mine — there was EVERYTHING. New music (video related), full choirs, school kids backflipping onto splits, and even a shout-out to Tame Impala: “Black people fuck with Tame Impala — y’all should be proud.” pic.twitter.com/LF6BsuvGXn
