Photo by Kat NijmeddinFollowing up his 2022 album Death Don’t Wait (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), Chris Farren has returned with Doom Singer, a new collection of ten songs. The prolific multi-hyphenate continues releasing music at an unmatchable clip, and Doom Singer calls upon Jay Som brainchild Melina Duterte for production, engineering and mixing duties. Through hints of the tones of singer/songwriter and hardcore he explored with Jeff Rosenstock in their band Antarctigo Vespucci, along with his own rock ‘n’ roll curiosities, lead single “Cosmic Leash” is a heavy, catchy bubblegum punk track that positions distorted, hooky guitars around Farren’s unique vocal set. “The cosmic leash / The lava flow / My body bursting like a volcano / It’s rushing back, back to me / The time release, the afterglow / I wanna glitch out of the world I know,” he sings.
“‘Cosmic Leash’ is about fighting the urge to romanticize the past but inevitably succumbing to the sentimental rot of nostalgia. Also, the song kicks ass,” Farren says. Doom Singer arrives August 4 via Polyvinyl. Watch the music video for “Cosmic Leash” and check out the Doom Singer album artwork and tracklist below.
