Brooklyn-based indie rockers Crumb have just dropped their debut LP Jinx, the experimental, bewilderingly beautiful follow-up to their 2017 EP Locket.
Following in the tradition of Crumb’s singular blend of psychedelic rock and jazz, Locket features guitarist and lead singer Lila Ramani’s ethereal voice treading across intimate guitar lines.
“Informed by two years of nearly non-stop touring, the songs sweep and swell to capture the beguiling live spirit of Crumb shows, while taking listeners one step further down the band’s dizzying, hypnotic path,” the album’s description explains.
The 10 songs on the album, adding up to a quick 28-minute runtime, meld hazy, multilayered production with a bewitching psych-pop, strung together with Ramani’s subdued yet confidently intimate voice.
Just a spoonful of Crumb’s kaleidoscopic LP leads listeners into a gossamer, lysergic dizzy spell of hypnotic drum lines, rhythmic bass, atmospheric synth and infectiously opaque songwriting combining into an abstract, authentic whole.
Crumb, made up of Ramani, Brian Aronow on synth, keys and sax, Jesse Brotter on bass and Jonathan Gilad on drums, formed in 2016 and immediately entranced audiences online and at their never-ending strings of shows.
Their following two EPs, 2016’s Crumb and 2017’s Locket, introduced the indie world to the band’s unique hallucinogenic experimentation and subtle, soulful introspection.
With no label, no management and no booking agent, Crumb’s latest album was self-released, allowing them to remain independent and wholly authentic while still surging forward in a way most unsigned bands could never dream of.
Crumb is seemingly always on tour, so it’s no surprise they’re kicking one off now.
