David Bowie’s Final Recordings to Be Released
Photo by Bryan Bedder/GettyBlackstar very purposely serves as David Bowie’s swan song. The album is littered with hints towards Bowie’s disease, which at the time wasn’t known publicly. The video for the track “Lazarus” featured Bowie writhing in a hospital bed, and Paste’s own review, published five days before his passing, unknowingly prophetic, says Bowie’s voice sounds like “broadcasts from the beyond.”
But Bowie continued writing and recording songs up until his death. As reported by Pitchfork, three unreleased songs recorded with the Blackstar backing band will be featured on the cast album of Lazarus, the musical based on The Man Who Fell to Earth, which was Bowie’s first starring role in a movie.
The three songs, titled “No Plan,” “Killing A Little Time” and “When I Met You,” will be featured on the second disc, along with the track “Lazarus,” which was included on Blackstar. It’s unclear if these three songs were recorded during the Blackstar sessions, or if they’re the final demos recorded by Bowie just prior to his death discussed here by Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti.
The Lazarus Cast Album will be released Oct. 21. Find the tracklist below.
