Death Cab for Cutie explore the melancholia of changing seasons in their latest single, “Autumn Love,” the third from their forthcoming record Thank You for Today. You can give it a listen below.

For a song that so clearly details melancholic sentiments, “Autumn Love” is surprisingly upbeat compared with much of Death Cab for Cutie’s generally moody discography. Maybe it’s the track’s title that signals a change in sound, but there’s a whisper of Americana in its acoustics and backing vocals. While signs of cheerfulness are evident (though not as clearly as in the stomp of previously released single “Gold Rush”), the sweeping riffs of Death Cab for Cutie’s brand of 2000s rock are absolutely still in play.

The band also shared another single, “I Dreamt We Spoke Again,” from Thank You for Today in July. The album is set to premiere on Aug. 17 via Atlantic Records, and you can preorder it here. Death Cab for Cutie recently announced a tour behind the record, dates for which you can find here.
