Dehd Announce New Album, Poetry

Chicago indie-rock band Dehd have announced their new album, Poetry, which is set to arrive May 10 via Fat Possum Records. Poetry follows up the band’s 2022 album, Blue Skies. The upcoming LP is inspired by Charles Bukowski’s poem “The Laughing Heart” and its themes of urgency and spiritedness. Rather than a traditional writing session, band members Jason Balla, Emily Kempf and Eric McGrady took to the road to pen the tracklist for Poetry, traveling from Taos, New Mexico to Puget Sound and back to Chicago for further inspiration. “Eating, sleeping, breathing, living — our only purpose was to write,” says Kempf.

In conjunction with the album announcement, the band released its lead single “Mood Ring,” a love song written about an encounter with a seductive motorcyclist. The fun and fluorescent track is driven forward by commanding vocals and buoyant instrumentals. Taut and textured surf rock riffs exude bright yellow bliss throughout the song. “Tough and rumble man with a little bit of danger / I can’t believe that he’s with me / He’s everything I need, my sexy little angel,” sings Kempf on the single.
