Childish Gambino’s Next Album Will Likely Be His Last
Photo by Neilson Barnard/GettyClosing out the second day of Governors Ball over the weekend, Donald Glover gave a vague announcement after closing out his set with “Redbone.” In a haze of blue light, Glover addressed the crowd, saying, “I love you New York. Thank you. You’re in my heart. I’ll see you for the last Gambino album.”
There has been no comment from Glover on whether the comment actually foretells the end of Childish Gambino. But after making a name for himself with his debut album Camp and going on to prove himself as a musical genius with Because The Internet and Awaken, My Love!, it makes sense that Glover would want to end his musical persona on a high note. How Glover even has time for a fourth album, though, is beyond us.
Glover has stayed busy flexing his artistic talents, winning multiple Emmys for Atlanta, which he writes, directs, executive produces and stars in. A second season is currently sidelined so Glover can focus on running an animated Deadpool series for FX. Glover is also set to play Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming Star Wars film and Simba in Disney’s The Lion King live-action remake.
You can watch Glover hint at a fourth and final album in the video below, specifically at the 5:43 mark, and wonder aloud with us on how he is so damn good at everything.
