Jakob Dylan and Regina Spektor Team up for Documentary Echo in the Canyon‘s “No Matter What You Do”

Taking on the psychedelic tunes of the ’60s, singer-songwriters Jakob Dylan and Regina Spektor have teamed up for a cover of Love’s “No Matter What You Do” for the forthcoming documentary Echo in the Canyon.

The 1966 classic is lively, high-energy and everything the documentary is about. It blends psychedelia and the R&B nuances of the decade while also including the vivaciousness that inspired musicians for decades to come.

Echo in the Canyon (dir. Andrew Slater) provides an in-depth look into the ’60s music scene of Southern California. In the documentary, Dylan, who also serves as executive producer, delves into the creative burst that seemed to happen in ’60s California while also interviewing the likes of Tom Petty, Brian Wilson, Eric Clapton and more.

Dylan and Spektor’s cover stays true to the original while also providing something of a contemporary aspect to the tune. The mix of the twangy guitar playing and Spektor’s sweet vocals provides a different edge not featured in the original, but overall elevates the song and the many different aspects it has.

The cover isn’t the first released in support of Echo in the Canyon, with Dylan previously having teamed up with former Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros member Jade Castrinos for a cover of The Mamas’ & The Papas’ “Go Where You Wanna Go.”

With a series of events and special premieres throughout May, Echo in the Canyon will have its wide release in select theaters in June.
