Elton John’s farewell tour is coming to an end (again)

Elton John’s farewell tour is coming to an end (again)

Elton John has been trying to retire from performing since 2018, when his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour started. The shows continued for five years, though COVID-19 disrupted part of his celebratory goodbye, as did a hip operation. In 2023, he ended the run in Stockholm, returning to the stage only for benefit concerts and one-off sets since—though, currently, he’s planning a multi-million dollar posthumous hologram tour at the new Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.

But this October, John is really calling it quits after two “final farewell” performances at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City. The dates are rescheduled from six years ago, when John’s sojourn to the Land of the Sun was halted by the pandemic. “Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart,” John wrote in a statement advertising the October 2 and 3 shows. “I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful. I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years.” John last performed in Mexico City 14 years ago on his Greatest Hits Tour, when he brought a rousing 25-song setlist to Auditorio Nacional.
