Ezra Williams Announces Debut Album, Releases Lead Single “Bleed”

In February, Irish multi-hyphenate Ezra Williams dropped “Deep Routed,” one of the richest singles of the year so far. Though the track was singular in its own impressiveness, it was clear that a bigger project from Williams was on the horizon. Today that feeling was solidified, as they’ve announced their proper debut record, Supernumeraries, which is set to hit streaming services in full on June 16 from AWAL. At just 20 years old, Williams, who once paraded under the moniker Smoothboi Ezra, is quickly establishing themselves as a songwriting tour-de-force.

The way Williams writes songs, as they chronicle romance, isolation and catharsis through their own eyes, as someone who is non-binary and autistic, offers an urgent voice to bedroom indie, in which they heed the spotlight by churning out unprecedented melodies and stories. Lead single “Bleed” is a tender offering that finds Williams examining how a new romance can be scary and familiar at the same time. The lyrics are honest and endearing, as Williams attempts to piece together the parts of someone else without knowing their true feelings or intentions. “Cause you smell like a home / That you love and you know / Wish I knew what I smelled like to you,” they sing.
