A Star Is Born was the talk of Oscars season, and it seems the hype for the film isn’t ending anytime soon. Resident singer of sad, poetic songs, Josh Tillman, better known as Father John Misty, performed his rejected contribution to the film’s soundtrack during a recent performance in Minneapolis.
Following that aforementioned note of being sad and poetic, the track is based solely in Tillman’s vocals and acoustic guitar as it builds with his band joining in. Devoid of many lyrics, Tillman sings on the track, “As long as you got yours, baby I can go and get mine […] I know it may sound cruel, inconvenient for you and ugly / but I’m too handsome to sit and hide / You tell me what’s a man to do when a man done lost all his pride.”
Not seeming to be one bit annoyed that his song got cut, Tillman voiced his opinions after performing the track: “That would’ve sucked. There is no … I’ve seen that movie. There’s really no place in that movie for that song. Unless he was bombing at Coachella or something. The sequel? Now we’re talking.”
Tillman closed his Minneapolis, Minn., show at The Armory with the track. The God’s Favorite Customer singer-songwriter is currently on his co-headlining tour with Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit.
