Faye Webster Signs to Secretly Canadian, Shares Video for New Song “Kingston”

Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Faye Webster released her sophomore, self-titled album last year (and earned her stripes as a Paste Best of What’s Next pick in the process), and now she’s back with a new tune. The 21-year-old self-directed a video for the new song, called “Kingston,” which you can watch below. Along with the new track and video, Webster shares the news that she has signed to the stalwart indie label Secretly Canadian.

Webster is adept at creating lush, dreamy country-pop mashups. “She Won’t Go Away,” a standout from last year’s Faye Webster, is bouncy and twangy, but on “Kingston,” Webster opts for silky, weightless slide guitar and gentle beats. Groovy electric guitar, soulful saxophone and, later, a classily implemented organ give a pleasant gliding sensation. It gets surprisingly psychedelic, too, as Webster echoes, “Baby tell me where you want to go / Baby tell me what you want to know.”

The video, though, is silky in the literal sense: In one montage, Webster is clad in blood-red luxe silk pajamas. Then, she lounges among a flamboyance of flamingos before helming a trio of ice skaters, all clad in silver sequined costumes. The whole thing is nothing short of a visual treat.

In addition to making her own music, Webster is a photographer with an impressive resume: She’s been immersed in the Atlanta hip-hop scene since high school and has snapped photos for the likes of Killer Mike, Lil Yachty, D.R.A.M. and Migos’ Offset. She was also a member of the rap collective PSA, and she’s affiliated with ATL startup Awful Records.
