Classic rock royalty Fleetwood Mac debuted their new lineup on Wednesday, performing for the first time on The Ellen Degeneres Show. Surprising absolutely no one, it rocked.
The performance—featuring “The Chain,” a staple from the band’s 1977 hit Rumours, and “Gypsy” from 1982’s Mirage—was the first performance with new guitarists Mike Campbell (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers) and Neil Finn (Crowded House). The new additions follow the band’s split with guitarist Lindsey Buckingham back in April.
Though there is definitely a hole left by Buckingham’s absence, the two guitarists were more than adequate when it came to filling the void. Finn’s vocals pack enough edge to balance out the warmth and rasp of Nicks and McVie, and though he’s not Buckingham, that’s for sure, he sounds pretty great taking up the former guitarist’s parts in “The Chain.”
The performance anticipates the band’s upcoming 52-date North American tour, set to kick off in Tulsa, Okla., in October.
