In the summer of 2009, Florence Welch’s soulful contralto vocals could be heard seemingly everywhere. Her band, Florence + The Machine, released their rousing debut studio album Lungs via Island Records exactly ten years ago today.
It spawned the singles “Dog Days Are Over,” and “You’ve Got The Love,” which impressed the band’s native indie-rock community and then broke into the mainstream.
Since then, Florence + The Machine have released several chart-topping LPs, 2011’s Ceremonials, 2015’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful and 2018’s High As Hope.
On Tuesday, Welch and her bandmates announced that they would re-release Lungs on Aug. 16 and shared two rare tracks from that era.
The band’s signature baroque-pop and alt-rock-infused sound can be heard in both of the new demos that double as singles, “Donkey Kosh” and “My Best Dress.” They are now available on streaming services.
Lungs (10th Anniversary Edition) will be available both digitally and in physical format. A special burgundy LP will be available next month.
There will also be a cloth-bound deluxe box set which includes the original album on pink vinyl and a record of unheard bonus material curated by Welch.
