You wonder what the men of the Manchester group Folks think their total weight is. You wonder what they think the rest of us amount to. They might sense particles or portions of us and themselves, but they appreciate the voids even more. They’re thinking in terms of the negative space that parts of us tend to cover over. It’s here, or it’s not here. It’s more for discussion than anything. The debate brews about who’s here and who has checked out, diminished themselves to some fraction of their former selves. They’ve a photo of a grass house on their website, but a glass house and glass people might be just as suitable.

Lead singer Scott Anderson sings, “We made love in New York City on transparent streets,” and we pause only because the streets are always there and they were when this all took place. It’s the love makers whom we question. Where were they on the night that this all went down and what made them so transparent? How long did it take to wear off and why didn’t they save some of those covert powers for later, when they were being chased by the dogs into those dead-ended alleys? Anderson suggests that we’re not “all there” and that, “They’re gonna get you in the end.” We find ourselves reluctantly believing him.
