Foo Fighters Joined Onstage by Special Guest: Dave Grohl’s Orthopedic Surgeon

Dave Grohl deserves credit for always bringing his show to the fans. Most weaker men would bail after falling offstage and breaking their leg, and surely almost all of them would cancel their tour instead of performing in a giant throne they designed in a drug-induced stupor. But over the weekend, the frontman took it one step further by making one of his fans part of the show.

Grohl brought his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Lew C. Schon, onstage to close out the band’s set at Fenway Park on Sunday with an electrifying cover of The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army,” Consequence of Sound reports. The surgeon must have been getting singing lessons in exchange for his services, because he actually killed it on lead vocal duty. (Also, is it just us or does he look a lot like Omar Rodríguez-López from the Mars Volta?)

No doubt the crowd was blown away by the performance, but even Grohl seemed to be in shock. “Holy shit, that’s actually my doctor,” he said incredulously before prompting the crowd to chant his name (“Lew” sounds unfortunately similar to “boo”). He eventually remembered he actually had a stable band supporting him onstage every night as well: “There’s other Foo Fighters, but I don’t even care about them right now.” If the tidal wave of applause at his introduction of guitarist Pat Smear was any indication, the audience sure did.
