Frank Ocean Drops a New Song, “Provider,” During the VMAs: Listen
Frank Ocean doesn't care what else is going on Sunday night.
Frank Ocean picked Sunday night—against the live MTV Video Music Awards and the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale to release a new episode of his Beats 1 radio show, “Blonded Radio.” So you know he’d have something worth tuning in for, and sure enough he dropped a brand new song called “Provider.”
“Provider” is a slow-burn ballad with brushes of melody wafting through a minimal beat and the occasional Stanley Kubrick reference. It was initially available via Soundcloud, but now you have to visit Ocean’s website to find a lyric video for the song.
Ocean has used previous episodes of “Blonded Radio” to premiere new songs like “Biking (Solo)” and his A$AP Rocky collaboration, “RAF.”
Meanwhile, over at the VMAs, Kendrick Lamar opened the show with an incendiary performance of “DNA” and “HUMBLE.” Watch that here.
