Watch Freddie Gibbs & Madlib’s “Giannis” Video

In June, Freddie Gibbs & Madlib released their second collaborative album together, the excellent Bandana, which was filled to the brim with cocaine-slinging cuts and crate-digging production. Monday, the duo shared the cinematic music video for “Giannis,” the standout track featuring Anderson .Paak.

The video, directed by M. Corey Whitted & Nick Walker, gives a backstory and conclusion to the drug-dealing character Gibbs played in the previously released video for “Crime Pays.” After a deal gone south in 2014, Gibbs gets out of the city game and moves to a farm. When he comes back to the city, things … don’t go too well.

“Giannis” lets Gibbs rap from a jet-ski, roast the Cheesecake Factory and crack wise with other dealers while also showcasing the ascendant rapper’s dramatic chops. The middle section of the video is a breezy and fun watch for a sludgy and brooding Bollywood-sampling banger, juxtaposed with Gibbs’ dark lyricism and the video’s narrative.
